Full-Sized Sound in a Take-It-Anywhere Package
There's a guitar for the living room couch, and there's a guitar for everywhere else. The Yamaha APXT2 is firmly in the second camp. At 3/4 the size of Yamaha's own APX600 — one of the best-selling acoustic-electric guitars out there — the APXT2 gives you a real, plug-in-ready instrument that goes wherever you go. Road trip? Throw it in the back seat. Camping? Fits in a tent. Couch noodling? Your back will thank you.
The thinline cutaway body keeps things light and comfortable against your body, while the 22 13/16" scale length and 1-11/16" nut width mean your fretting hand has real room to move — this isn't a cramped toy guitar. Players with full-sized hands will feel at home here, and anyone still building finger strength and reach will find the shorter scale genuinely easier to navigate.
Whether you're a newer player looking for something approachable, or a seasoned guitarist who wants a dependable travel companion that can plug into a PA when needed, the APXT2NA checks the boxes without making you feel like you're settling.
Spruce Top, Meranti Back and Sides
The APXT2's top is spruce — a tried-and-true toneword choice for acoustic guitars that delivers a bright, balanced response with good note definition. Paired with meranti back and sides, the result is a guitar with a clear, natural acoustic voice that holds up well both unplugged and through a system.
The rosewood fretboard gives the neck a smooth, familiar feel underhand, and the rosewood bridge keeps the tone grounded and warm. Binding is cream and black — a clean, classic look that suits the natural gloss finish well. The body gets a gloss coat while the neck wears a matte finish, which tends to feel faster and less sticky under the thumb during extended playing.
System 68 Electronics with ART-Based Pickup
The APXT2 is a full acoustic-electric, and Yamaha didn't cut corners on the electronics for a 3/4 instrument. The System 68 contact pickup uses Yamaha's A.R.T. (Acoustic Resonance Transducer) technology to capture the guitar's natural vibration directly, delivering an amplified tone that stays true to how the guitar sounds acoustically rather than getting thin or piezo-harsh.
The onboard active preamp includes a mid-boost EQ for shaping your plugged-in sound, plus a precision chromatic tuner built right into the controls. That means no fumbling for a clip-on tuner at a gig or practice session — tune up, dial in your tone, and play. The shallow thinline body also helps keep feedback more manageable in amplified settings compared to deeper-bodied acoustics.
