The APXT2's thinline cutaway body is built around Yamaha's APXT Small Shape, measuring 22 13/16" in scale length and sitting at just 2 9/16"–2 15/16" deep. That shallow depth keeps it lightweight and comfortable against your body — especially appreciated during longer playing sessions on the road. The single cutaway opens up the upper frets so you're not locked out of anything even on a shorter neck.
Nut width comes in at 1 11/16" (43 mm), which is notably generous for a 3/4-scale guitar. Players with full-sized hands will find it a much more natural feel than most small-body instruments. The rosewood fretboard pairs with a rosewood bridge, and the gloss body finish contrasts nicely with the satin matte neck — which keeps your fretting hand moving freely without sticking.
System 68 Electronics and the A.R.T. Pickup
The APXT2 runs Yamaha's System 68 electronics — a one-way active ART (Acoustic Resonance Transducer) contact pickup paired with a preamp that includes Volume, Tone, and a built-in chromatic tuner. The ART pickup is a contact-style transducer designed to capture the guitar's natural resonance rather than just the air in the soundhole, which gives amplified tone a more organic, acoustic feel through a PA or acoustic amp.
The built-in tuner is a genuinely handy feature — no clip-on required, no cables, just tune and go. For a traveling or stage guitar, having that convenience baked right into the preamp makes a real difference when you're setting up quickly.
