A Dreadnought Reimagined — and Made for Lefties

Finding a well-built left-handed acoustic-electric that doesn't feel like an afterthought can be a real challenge. The Ibanez AAD170LCE-LGS was designed specifically to address that, and it starts with a fresh take on the classic dreadnought shape. Ibanez called it the Grand Dreadnought — a body that's proportionally larger than a standard dreadnought, built to push more volume, more low end, and a fuller tonal picture out of every strum and fingerpicked phrase.

Topping the body is a solid Sitka spruce top paired with okoume back and sides. That combination delivers the brightness and projection spruce is known for, with a warm, woody character underneath from the okoume. The Natural Low Gloss finish keeps things looking clean and understated, and it lets the wood breathe a little more than a thick gloss coating would.

Whether you're playing unplugged at home or plugging into the PA at a gig, the AAD170LCE-LGS is ready for both. It's a well-rounded instrument for players who want a single guitar that covers a lot of ground.

Built Bigger, Braced Smarter

The Grand Dreadnought body runs about 5% larger than a standard dreadnought, which translates directly into more volume and a stronger low-end response. Pair that with Ibanez's proprietary X-M Bracing — a carefully engineered take on scalloped X-bracing — and you get a body that's tuned to move air efficiently from top to bridge to back. The result is clear definition in the low end, presence in the treble, and a wide dynamic range that responds to how hard or softly you play.

The cutaway body includes Ibanez's Advanced Access design, which opens up the upper frets without the usual sacrifice to body resonance. For players who like to roam the full length of the neck, that's a meaningful feature rather than just a cosmetic one.

A Neck That Gets Out of the Way

The neck is Thermo Aged Nyatoh with a Low Oval Grip profile — a comfortable, mid-depth C-style shape with rounded fretboard edges that make it easy to move across chord shapes without catching on the edges. Scale length is 651mm (25.6"), which sits just a hair longer than a standard 25.5" — enough to keep string tension feeling firm and defined, but not noticeably different in everyday playing.

The Ovangkol fretboard gives a smooth, comfortable playing surface, and the nut width of 43mm keeps string spacing in the familiar range for steel-string players. Nut and saddle are both bone — a genuine benefit at this price point, contributing to better sustain and intonation transfer compared to synthetic alternatives.

Stage-Ready Electronics, Minimal Fuss

The AP11 magnetic pickup is mounted at the end of the fretboard, where it captures string vibration without sitting directly on the top and interfering with its natural movement. The result is a plugged-in sound that stays close to the guitar's acoustic character — clear, present, and responsive across the frequency range. Onboard volume and tone controls let you dial in your sound without needing to reach for a pedal.

The output is a standard 1/4" endpin jack, so you can plug straight into any amp, DI, or PA. Chrome die-cast tuners with an 18:1 gear ratio keep things stable and easy to tune precisely, and Ibanez Advantage bridge pins lock the strings in place reliably. D'Addario XTAPB1253 strings (.012–.053) come from the factory.
