One Pedal. Every Reverb You'll Ever Need.
You know the feeling — you've spent twenty minutes dialing in the perfect lush plate reverb, and then the next song calls for a dripping spring tone or a swelling Shimmer that fades into the void. With a single-mode pedal, that's a problem. With the Boss RV-200, it isn't. This is Boss's long-awaited compact reverb built for the 200 Series format — smaller than the RV-500 it draws from, but loaded with the same serious processing under the hood.
The RV-200 packs 12 distinct reverb types into a twin-footswitch pedal that fits comfortably on any pedalboard. From workhorse tones like Room, Hall, Plate, and Spring to more exploratory territory — Shimmer, Slowverb, Reverse, Lo-Fi, Gate, +Delay, Modulate, and the newly developed Arpverb — there's a lot of sonic ground covered here. You can move between them quickly, save your favorites, and build out a serious reverb toolkit without adding bulk to your board.
Whether you play guitar, keys, or anything that benefits from a sense of space, the RV-200 is well-suited to both live performance and studio use. Players who want something simple can dial in a great sound in seconds; those who want to go deep into customization, MIDI routing, and expression control have plenty of room to explore.
12 Reverb Types With Hands-On Controls
The control layout on the RV-200 is straightforward: a Mode knob to select your reverb type, Time, Pre-Delay, and Effect Level knobs, independent Low and High EQ controls, and a Density button with six stages for adjusting the weight of the reverb. There's also a Param knob that unlocks extended settings specific to each reverb mode — for example, selecting from four different room sizes in Room mode, or adjusting the harmonic diffusion in Shimmer mode.
The 12 modes cover a wide range: Room and Hall for realistic spaces, Plate for studio-style sheen, Spring for that classic amp-style drip, Shimmer for pitch-shifted harmonic tails, and Arpverb — a newly developed algorithm unique to the RV-200 — which generates evocative arpeggiated pitch-shifted reverb tails. Slowverb blends the direct signal with a soft ambient swell, Modulate adds movement to a hall reverb, +Delay combines reverb with delay in a single effect, and Lo-Fi, Gate, and Reverse round out the more experimental options.
A selectable carryover feature lets reverb trails continue naturally when you switch presets or bypass the effect — something players who work with ambient or layered sounds will appreciate during live sets.
127 Presets and Real Performance Tools
The RV-200 stores up to 127 user memories, so every sound you build stays ready to recall. Two onboard footswitches are fully assignable — you can use them to bypass the effect, scroll through memories, or activate a Hold function that sustains the reverb for as long as the switch is held. You can also assign performance effects like Warp, Twist, and Fade to the footswitches for real-time sound shaping mid-performance.
The panel lock function prevents accidental parameter changes once you've got things set — useful when a pedal is on the floor mid-gig. A high-visibility LED display keeps editing accessible even in low-light stage environments.
Stereo I/O, MIDI, and Deep External Control
The RV-200 runs true stereo in and out, with wet/dry and dry mute output options for flexible signal routing. MIDI I/O is onboard via space-saving 1/8" TRS jacks, allowing integration with MIDI controllers, DAWs, or other pedals in your chain. A dedicated 1/4" control jack accepts expression pedals or external footswitches for real-time parameter control.
One of the more practical features for multi-pedal rigs: via MIDI, you can chain multiple Boss 200 Series pedals together and switch presets across all of them simultaneously — useful if you're running the RV-200 alongside an OD-200, DD-200, MD-200, or other members of the 200 Series family. Power is via three AA batteries or an optional 9V DC adapter (center negative, sold separately).
The processing behind all of this is custom Boss DSP running at a 96kHz sampling rate with 32-bit AD/DA conversion and 32-bit floating-point processing — the same processing architecture used in Boss's larger reverb units.
