Why Rent-To-Own Your

Beginning Band Instrument?

Renting a band instrument is the best way to set your child up for success without breaking the bank. The biggest reason new students quit? Playing on an instrument that holds them back. A low-quality or poorly maintained instrument makes it harder to play, harder to learn, and way less fun. We only rent high-quality instruments from trusted brands like Yamaha, King, Bach, and Conn-Selmer, so your child gets the best possible start. With our rent-to-own program, every payment (except maintenance fees) goes toward ownership. And if they decide to switch from trumpet to clarinet or move on from band altogether? No worries—our flexible program makes it easy.

For generations, C. A. House Music has helped Ohio Valley families start their musical experience with the right instrument—one that supports their growth instead of holding them back. A well-made instrument is the key to success—when it sounds good and feels easy to play, your child will be excited to practice, improve, and Play Music for Life!

What do I need to rent an instrument?

Renting is simple! Just bring:

  • A credit or debit card (used for the down payment and kept on file)
  • A driver’s license or state ID
  • Two references who don’t live with you or each other (Just their name, phone number, and address – we don’t need the whole person!).
  • A verifiable source of household income

The person completing the rental must be a parent or guardian of the student

If you’re unable to meet these requirements, we welcome co-applicants if they’re related to the child receiving the instrument.

Questions? Call or text (740)695-5929!

When do my payments start?

Payments start 60 days from the date of delivery.

That means you get two months free!

When is my monthly payment due?

Your monthly payment due date is based on the day your instrument was delivered. If that falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment will be processed the next business day.

Need a specific due date? Give us a call or text at (740) 695-5929, and we’ll set it up!

Is there a minimum rental period?

Nope! There’s no minimum or trial period. You can return your rental anytime, and you’ll only be charged for the time you had it. Just bring it back to a C. A. House Music location or fill out this form.

Should I rent or buy an instrument?

For beginners, renting is hands down the best way to go. Here’s why:

  • It’s an affordable, commitment-free way to get started.
  • 100% of your rental principal applies toward purchase if you decide to buy later.
  • If your child decides music isn’t their thing, you can return the instrument with no penalty.
  • We offer a 25% Early Purchase Discount on your remaining principal at any time.
  • You’ll get a high-quality, educator-approved instrument, setting your child up for success.

Buying an instrument from an online marketplace might seem like a good deal, but many low-cost instruments end up need expensive repairs—or just don’t play well. Plus, our rental program includes routine maintenance, so your instrument stays in top shape. For string players, renting is even smarter since kids often need a larger size as they grow.

What if my child decides to stop playing?

Not every child sticks with music, and that’s okay! Before making a final decision, encourage them to give it a little more time—sometimes, a little extra practice can make all the difference.

If they still want to stop, simply return the instrument to any of our four locations in St. Clairsville, OH; Parkersburg, WV; Zanesville, OH; or Lancaster, OH. If getting to a store isn’t convenient, fill out this form to request a school pickup while classes are in session (not during summer, breaks, or in-service days). If you fill out the online form, C. A. House Music will contact you regarding your return request.

****Important***: This rental contract is between you and C. A. House Music, not the school.  Please do not leave the instrument at school to be picked up without confirmation from a C. A. House Music staff member.  Any instrument we cannot collect will still be considered "under contract," and billing will continue.

I finished my rental online. When will the instrument be delivered?

We work closely with band teachers to deliver a classroom’s instruments in a group at the start of the school year. If you missed the scheduled delivery, don’t worry—our Educational Representative visits each school weekly. Once your application is processed, your instrument will be delivered on the next scheduled visit, typically within seven days.

During peak rental season (September/October), deliveries may take a little longer. Need it sooner? Rent in store to take the instrument home that day!

What comes with my rental?

Your instrument will be ready to play right out of the case (but wait for your teacher to show you how)!

You’ll also have the option to add recommended accessories like method books, music stands, cleaning supplies, and reeds—all things that help your child succeed in music.

What if my rental is broken or needs repairs?

We’ve got you covered! Bring your instrument to any C. A. House Music location, and one of our Instrument Repair Technicians will take care of it. If visiting in person isn’t convenient, give us a call at the closest store and we’ll figure something out.

Can my child switch instruments?

Yes! The first instrument exchange within the first year is free, with 100% of your rental principal transferring to the new instrument. After the first year (or after the second exchange), 60% of the principal will apply. Just call or text your nearest C. A. House Music location to make the switch.

Switching string sizes? No problem—size exchanges are included in your rental contract! Come in to any C. A. House location and we'll get you a new size.

What does the maintenance policy cover?

Our maintenance coverage keeps your instrument in great shape. Normal wear and tear? Minor adjustments? We’ll take care of it at no extra cost.

How do I update my payment information?

Your rental payment is processed on the due date using the card on file. If your card expires or you’d like to switch payment methods, you have a few options:

  • By Phone: Call our Business Office at (740) 695-5929.
