The D'Addario ECB81-5 XL Chromes are the 5-string version of D'Addario's best-selling flatwound bass string set. If you play a 5-string bass and want that classic flat-wound feel — smooth under the fingers, no finger squeak, and a warm, dark tone that sits right in the mix — this is the set most players end up coming back to. They work equally well on fretted and fretless basses.
These strings are built around a hex-shaped high carbon steel core, with a stainless steel flattened ribbon wrap wire that's precisely wound and then polished to a smooth, even surface. That construction is what gives flatwounds their signature feel and sound: less brightness than roundwounds, more sustain and warmth, and significantly reduced finger noise. The .132 low B fills out the bottom end without feeling sloppy. Fits long-scale basses with a scale length of up to 36¼ inches. Made in the USA at D'Addario's New York production facility, and packaged in a corrosion-resistant recyclable VCI bag to keep strings fresh until you're ready to string up.
