The Top That Makes This Guitar Different
The defining feature here is the swamp ash top and the way PRS finished it. Rather than a traditional gloss or satin, the top was sandblasted to accentuate the wood's natural figure — opening up the grain and creating texture you can actually feel. PRS then grain-fills the top in color, so the Sandblasted Blue finish settles into the grain lines while leaving the raised wood surface with a satin, natural feel.
Swamp ash as a tonewood brings a bright, airy character with good note separation — the kind of response that rewards a light touch but doesn't disappear when you dig in. Paired with the mahogany back, you get a combination that balances the brightness of ash with the warmth and sustain mahogany is known for. The smoked black hardware complements the sandblasted finish without competing with it.
A Neck That Gets Out of Your Way
The bolt-on maple neck carries PRS's Wide Thin profile — 13/16" at the first fret, 57/64" at the twelfth. That's a fast, low-resistance feel that sits comfortably in the hand without feeling too thin to grip. The 25" scale length is PRS standard, giving the neck a slightly tighter string tension than a Gibson-scale guitar, which tends to make bends feel more controlled.
The rosewood fretboard has a 10" radius, 24 frets, and a 1-11/16" nut width. The neck carries a satin finish — no sticky gloss lacquer slowing your hand down on position shifts. The scarfed neck construction is designed to improve headstock break angle strength.
Pickups and Controls
The 85/15 "S" humbuckers are PRS-designed uncovered pickups voiced for clarity and extended frequency response — more open-sounding than many covered humbuckers, with a full low end and detailed highs. The "S" designation refers to the SE-spec versions of PRS's well-regarded 85/15 design.
The push/pull tone control adds coil-tap functionality, giving you single-coil options alongside the standard humbucker voicings. A 3-way toggle handles pickup selection. The PRS Patented Molded Tremolo handles the vibrato side of things, designed for tuning stability even with regular use. PRS-designed lightweight tuners round out the hardware picture.
