One Guitar. One Finish. That's It.

If you've ever wanted a Les Paul Custom that nobody else on earth owns, this is as close as it gets. The Opal Reef finish was dreamed up right here at C.A. House Music — a custom color matched to a physical sample and commissioned through Gibson's Made-to-Measure program. This particular instrument is a 1-of-1, meaning when it's gone, there will never be another one exactly like it. The finish sweeps across the figured maple top, the back, the neck, and even the headstock, letting the natural maple figuring whisper through that ocean-inspired gloss.

Underneath the stunning exterior, this is a proper Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Custom through and through — weight-relieved mahogany body, ebony fingerboard, gold hardware, 490R/498T humbuckers, and a long tenon set neck. It's built and spec'd the way a Les Paul Custom should be.

This is the kind of guitar you buy once and keep forever. Or the kind someone else buys and you spend the next ten years thinking about.

The Opal Reef Finish and Figured Top

The centerpiece of this build is the hand-picked 7A quilted maple top — 7A being one of the highest grade in Gibson's top selection, characterized by exceptionally dense, three-dimensional figure. The Opal Reef color is a C.A. House Music original: an ocean-inspired gloss finish matched from a physical sample our team developed specifically for this M2M run. It extends uniformly across the top, back, neck, and headstock so the guitar reads as a single cohesive piece from any angle.

The finish is applied in gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, which keeps the wood alive under a thin, breathable coat. Players often find that nitro ages gracefully over time, developing character that thick poly finishes simply can't replicate. The 7-ply binding on the top and 5-ply binding on the back frame the figuring cleanly and give the whole instrument that unmistakable Custom Shop attention to detail.

Construction and Tonewoods

The body is solid mahogany with modern weight relief — the same construction Gibson uses across its current Custom Shop LPC platform. Weight relief trims some of the mass without hollowing out the resonant character that makes a Les Paul sound like a Les Paul. The mahogany body pairs with the figured maple top in the classic recipe: warmth and sustain from the mahogany, articulation and bite from the maple.

The neck is also solid mahogany, carved to the LPC Modern Medium C profile. It's a shape that works for a wide range of playing styles — substantial enough for chord work, comfortable enough for long sessions. The neck joint is a long tenon set neck, which keeps the neck and body locked together for maximum resonance transfer.

Ebony Fingerboard, 490R/498T Humbuckers, and Gold Hardware

The pickup set is Gibson's 490R in the neck and 498T at the bridge — the pairing that's been standard on the Les Paul Custom Modern Collection for decades. The 490R uses an Alnico 2 magnet and is voiced for warm, articulate rhythm tones; the 498T runs an Alnico 5 magnet and delivers a hotter, more aggressive character suited for lead work and higher-gain playing. Controls are straightforward: two volume and two tone pots wired to a Switchcraft 3-way toggle. There's a wide range of tones available here from the neck pickup alone, and the jump in output and character when you switch to the bridge gives you two distinct voices to work with.

Hardware throughout is gold-plated, including the Tune-O-Matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece and the Grover Kidney tuning machines. The headstock carries the split diamond inlay that's been a Les Paul Custom hallmark since the 1950s, with five-ply binding completing the look. Gold speed knobs, black pickup rings, and the classic LP Custom plastics round out the cosmetics.
