One Pedal, Endless Layers
There's something almost magical about the first time you stomp down on a looper and hear your own playing come back at you — suddenly you're your own rhythm section, your own backing band, your own practice partner who never gets tired. The Boss RC-1 Loop Station is built around exactly that moment. It strips looping down to its essential idea: press once to record, press again to play back, press again to overdub. That's it. No menus, no deep-dive settings, no manual required before your first loop is running.
Boss has been in the looping game since the RC-20 launched in 2001, and the RC-1 represents the brand's answer to a simple question: what's the most approachable, reliable looper they can make? The result is a compact stompbox that fits on any pedalboard, runs on a 9V battery or optional AC adapter, and gets out of the way so you can focus on playing. Whether you're working on chord changes at home, building texture during a live set, or sketching out a song idea, this pedal shows up and does the job.
The RC-1 works for guitarists, bassists, keyboard players, and anyone else who wants to loop — the stereo ins and outs make it genuinely versatile beyond just a guitar signal chain.
The Loop Indicator: Your Visual Compass
One of the RC-1's most practical features is something you'll notice immediately: the 24-segment LED indicator arranged in a circular pattern on the face of the pedal. It changes colors and rotation speed depending on whether you're in Record, Overdub, or Play mode, so you always know exactly where you are in the loop without having to think about it.
This isn't just a cosmetic touch — knowing your position in the loop is genuinely useful for timing your entries and exits cleanly, especially in a live setting where you're also playing and not staring at the pedal. It functions as a real-time visual clock for your loop cycle.
12 Minutes of Stereo Recording Time
The RC-1 gives you up to 12 minutes of stereo recording time with unlimited overdubs layered on top of a single loop. For most players — whether you're building a three-chord jam, practicing soloing over chord progressions, or creating ambient layers — 12 minutes of stereo time is plenty of room to work. The pedal also retains your last recorded loop in memory even after you power down, so you don't lose that idea you were building on when you need to pack up.
Stereo operation means you can connect two separate mono instruments, stereo effects, a keyboard, or run into a dual-amp setup using the two 1/4-inch inputs and two 1/4-inch outputs. Mono players can use it just as easily via the Input A and Output A jacks.
Buffered Bypass and External Footswitch Support
The RC-1 uses buffered bypass, which keeps your signal strong and clean through long cable runs even when the pedal is disengaged — a practical consideration if the RC-1 lives at the end of a lengthy signal chain. The iconic Boss metal housing keeps things durable and road-worthy.
For players who want more hands-free control, the pedal includes a STOP/UNDO jack that accepts an optional external footswitch (Boss FS-series, sold separately). This lets you split functions between two switches rather than relying on different tap patterns on a single button — a welcome option for live performance where precision matters. Power comes from a single 9V alkaline battery (approximately 4.5 hours of life) or an optional PSA-series AC adapter, sold separately.
