A Full Pedalboard in One Box — Without the Cable Chaos
You know the drill: you spend an afternoon velcro-ing pedals to a board, running power cables, tracing signal chains, and by the time you plug in, you've already lost the will to play. The Boss ME-90 exists to solve exactly that problem. It puts a whole rig's worth of sounds under your feet in a single unit — and because it's built around physical knobs for each effect category, it actually feels like a pedalboard rather than a menu system you have to fight through.
The ME-90 is the most advanced entry in Boss's long-running ME series, and that lineage matters. This isn't a first-generation experiment — it's a unit that builds on decades of live-performance feedback, updated with amp models and effects pulled directly from the GT-1000 flagship processor. Whether you're running it into a guitar amp or straight into a PA, there's a rear-panel switch that optimizes the output for either scenario.
If you're someone who wants real hands-on control — dial up a sound, twist a knob, done — the ME-90 is built for you. It's equally at home in a rehearsal room, on a club stage, or plugged into a laptop as a recording interface.
Amp Models and Effects Rooted in the GT-1000
At the heart of the ME-90 are 11 onboard AIRD amp models, each with a dedicated cabinet, plus the ability to load up to three of your own speaker IRs. The amp models cover a wide range of sounds — from clean combos to high-gain stacks — and the AIRD technology is designed to respond to picking dynamics the way a real tube amp does, not just approximate the shape of the sound.
Beyond the amp section, you get 60 effect types across seven simultaneous effect categories, all derived from the GT-1000. That covers overdrives, distortions, pitch and modulation effects, delays, reverbs, and more — plus 11 dedicated Pedal FX, a looper, acoustic guitar simulation, and down-tuning. A send/return effects loop is also on board, so you can still integrate your favorite standalone pedals into the chain and even save the loop's on/off status per patch.
Need even more variety? BOSS Tone Studio for Mac and Windows unlocks access to over 20 additional effect types and alternate amp selections beyond what's available on the hardware itself.
Two Modes, Eight Footswitches, One Expression Pedal
The ME-90 operates in two distinct modes that flip how the footswitches behave. Memory mode lets you call up complete, pre-saved patch setups with a single stomp — useful for switching between completely different sounds between songs. Manual mode reconfigures the footswitches to directly toggle each effect category on or off within a patch, giving you the feel of working a real pedalboard in real time.
The eight footswitches feature color-coded LEDs that make it easy to see what's active at a glance, even under stage lighting. You can also set all LEDs to a fixed color per mode if you prefer. The expression pedal has been redesigned from the previous generation for finer parameter control, and it includes an integrated toe switch.
There are 36 factory preset patches ready to go out of the box and 36 user patch slots for saving your own sounds.
Recording-Ready and Built to Travel
The USB-C port on the back isn't just for software communication — it also turns the ME-90 into a computer audio interface, so you can record directly into your DAW without any additional hardware. BOSS Tone Studio connects over the same cable for full patch editing, amp and effect swapping, and access to the BOSS Tone Exchange community for downloading and sharing presets.
Power comes from four AA batteries or an optional AC adapter (sold separately). The unit is lighter than its predecessor while keeping the build quality Boss is known for. An optional Bluetooth Audio MIDI Dual Adaptor (sold separately) adds wireless editing and audio streaming from iOS or Android via the dedicated BTS app. The audio engine runs at 24-bit AD/DA, 32-bit floating-point processing, and a 48 kHz sampling rate.
