The BERP — short for Buzz Extension and Resistance Piece — is a simple but genuinely useful practice tool for tuba players. It clamps onto your instrument's leadpipe in place of the mouthpiece, then lets you buzz through the mouthpiece while holding your horn in your normal playing position. The result is mouthpiece buzzing practice that actually transfers to the instrument, rather than the disconnected feeling you get from buzzing in the air.
The BERP6 is the tuba-specific model. Once attached, you can finger your valves along to whatever you're buzzing, which tightens the connection between your ear, your embouchure, and your technique. There's also an adjustable resistance dial — on the tuba model, it sits above the holes and lowers to increase or decrease resistance. Because the air isn't flowing into the instrument, it's also a solid option when you need to warm up somewhere quiet. The clamp is designed to fit round, hex, or convex-shaped receivers.
