The Boss JB-2 Angry Driver was built exactly for that moment. Born out of a collaboration between Boss and JHS Pedals to celebrate Boss's 40th anniversary of compact pedals, this one puts the iconic BD-2 Blues Driver and the JHS Angry Charlie into the same enclosure — and then gives you six different ways to connect them.
What makes the JB-2 more than just a "two pedals in a box" story is the routing system. You can run each voice on its own, toggle between them with a single stomp, stack them in series either direction, or blend them in parallel for tones that neither circuit could produce alone. That's a lot of ground to cover from a single compact pedal.
Whether you're a blues player who occasionally needs to push into harder rock territory, or a rock guitarist who wants a cleaner overdrive option in the same unit, the JB-2 covers both ends without compromise.
Two Distinct Drive Voices
The Boss side brings the BD-2 Blues Driver's familiar character — expressive low-to-mid gain tones that respond dynamically to your picking. It's the kind of overdrive that cleans up when you roll back your guitar's volume and opens up into a warm crunch when you dig in.
The JHS side delivers the Angry Charlie's more aggressive, higher-gain voice — think Marshall-inspired crunch with more saturation and mid-forward bite. Together, these two circuits cover a range from subtle breakup all the way to full distortion, and the combination of the two circuits opens up tonal territory that goes beyond what either pedal does on its own.
Six Modes, Three Dual-Concentric Knobs
The six-position mode selector is where the JB-2 really earns its place on a board. It lets you run Boss only, JHS only, toggle between the two from the stomp switch, stack JHS into Boss in series, stack Boss into JHS in series, or run both circuits in parallel. In series mode, one overdrive acts as a booster pushing the other harder. In parallel mode, the two circuits blend together and respond expressively to picking dynamics.
Controls are handled by three dual-concentric knobs — each one controls Drive, Tone, and Level independently for each voice. You get six total controls in a single compact footprint, and in parallel mode, all six interact to shape a single blended sound.
Remote Jack, Multi-Color LED, and Standard Boss Build
A 1/4" remote jack lets you connect an optional external footswitch or effects switcher to control pedal modes and bypass without touching the mode knob — useful if you've got this integrated into a larger rig. The multi-color LED makes it easy to see at a glance which circuit is active: blue for Boss, red for JHS, and purple when both are engaged together.
The JB-2 runs on a 9V battery or a 9V DC adapter (sold separately) and uses Boss's buffered bypass. It's housed in the classic Boss compact steel enclosure — the same durable chassis that's been on stages and in studios for decades.
