The idea behind the Red Cut was to expand what the JAVA could do while keeping its core character intact. The filed cut produces more flexibility than the standard (Green) JAVA, with a touch more tonal body and a noticeably precise attack. Vandoren grows the cane for these reeds in their own fields in the south of France.
