Solid Mahogany Top with Scalloped Bracing
The FG850's solid mahogany top is the centerpiece of its tone. Yamaha pairs it with a newly developed scalloped bracing pattern, which reinforces the top while allowing it to move more freely, boosting projection and low-to-mid response.

Twenty frets, die-cast chrome tuners, and a rosewood bridge round out a package that's built to stay in tune and stay playable. Urea nut and saddle are serviceable, and a bone replacement is always an easy upgrade down the road if you want to squeeze a little more tone from it.
The Look
The FG850 wears a gloss natural finish that lets the mahogany's grain show through cleanly. Cream binding frames the body nicely, and an abalone soundhole inlay adds a touch of detail that keeps the aesthetic from feeling plain.
