A Stage-Ready Thinline That's Ready to Go Again
The Yamaha APX600 is one of those guitars that earns its reputation by just being genuinely useful. It's thin enough to feel comfortable strapped on for a long set, short enough in scale to make chord changes a breeze, and plugged-in or not — it holds its own. This particular example is here in Old Violin Sunburst, a warm amber-to-brown finish that gives it a classic, dressed-up look without being showy about it.
This Yamaha 6 String A/E Guitar Model: APX600 - Includes a Gig Bag
Condition: Very Good - Very fine play scratches in poly finish on top, small binding imperfection by sound hole.
The APX600 grew out of the wildly popular APX500 line, keeping everything players loved about that guitar while adding a genuine abalone rosette, a slightly shorter 25" scale, and a deeper body for improved bass response. It's a practical acoustic-electric built for the stage first — and it shows in everything from the thinline cutaway design to the feedback-resistant electronics.
Thinline Body Built for Playing
The APX body shape is Yamaha's answer to a common problem: standard acoustic bodies can feel bulky and awkward, especially for players who come from electric guitars. The thinline design keeps the depth to roughly 3–3.5 inches, so it sits closer to your body and feels more familiar. The single cutaway gives you clean access all the way up the fretboard — handy when a song calls for work up in the higher registers.
The distinctive oval soundhole is a signature APX feature. It's positioned and shaped to enhance lower-mid response and give the low end a bit more presence compared to a standard round soundhole. Combined with the non-scalloped X-type bracing pattern, the body is tuned for a responsive, full-sounding acoustic voice even in an unplugged setting.
Spruce Top, Nato Body, Rosewood Fretboard
The top is spruce, which gives the APX600 a bright, clear attack that responds well to both strumming and fingerpicking. The back and sides are nato — a tonewood that behaves similarly to mahogany, delivering warm mids and solid low-end punch. The 25" scale length (shorter than a standard acoustic) and 43mm nut width make the neck feel approachable, especially for players transitioning from electric guitars or those with smaller hands.
The rosewood fingerboard and bridge add a little warmth and smoothness to the overall character. The neck itself is made from locally sourced tropical tonewood — Yamaha's sustainable approach to manufacturing — and the gloss finish throughout gives the guitar a polished, stage-ready look even after some years of use.
System 65A Preamp and SRT Piezo Pickup
When you're ready to plug in, the APX600 uses Yamaha's System 65A preamp paired with their proprietary SRT undersaddle piezo pickup — the same technology found in Yamaha's higher-end A Series guitars. The SRT design uses individual elements per string to capture a wide, accurate frequency response with better dynamic detail than a standard piezo. The result is an amplified tone that stays close to the guitar's natural acoustic voice rather than thinning out or going overly bright.
The onboard 3-band EQ with adjustable midrange lets you dial in your sound at the source without relying entirely on the house board or amp. There's also a built-in chromatic tuner — always handy when you're about to step on stage. Feedback rejection is notably strong, which matters in loud live environments where a standard acoustic might start howling.
