Your Practice Space Just Got a Whole Lot More Interesting
You know that feeling when you sit down to practice and an hour disappears? The Positive Grid Spark 2 is good at causing that. It's a 50-watt stereo combo amp built around an all-new HD DSP modeling engine, FRFR speakers, and a dedicated computational audio chip — but what makes it genuinely fun to pick up every day is everything else packed around those specs. There's a built-in groove looper with hundreds of drum patterns, an AI tone-matching feature, and a free app that connects the whole thing into something that feels less like a practice amp and more like a creative tool.
The Spark 2 works with electric, acoustic, and bass guitar, so whether you're running single-coils through a vintage Fender clean or plugging in an acoustic for a quick chord session, one amp handles it. Eight customizable on-board presets cover your most-used sounds without touching a phone, and the top-panel controls — gain, bass, mid, treble, master, mod, delay, reverb — keep things tactile and familiar.
Players who want deep tone exploration will find it through the Spark app and ToneCloud library; players who just want to plug in and play will be just as happy leaving the phone on the shelf.
Sound Built Around FRFR and Sonic IQ
The Spark 2 runs a pair of 2 x 4-inch full-range speakers with custom angled horns, configured as a bass-reflex cabinet with dual reflex ports. The angled FRFR design projects a wider stereo image and a broader frequency response compared to a conventional forward-facing speaker layout — a noticeable difference when you're sitting close to the amp during a practice session.
Powering those speakers is Sonic IQ Computational Audio, which runs on a dedicated chip separate from the main DSP. It handles dynamic range compression, bass enhancement, stereo widening, and Auto EQ in real time, shaping the audio output to stay balanced across the amp's 20–20,000 Hz frequency range. The result is a fuller, more even sound regardless of the amp model or preset you're dialing in.
The 50W Class D power amplifier gives the Spark 2 meaningful headroom for home practice, and the stereo line outputs (L/Mono and R on 1/4-inch jacks) make it easy to send a processed signal directly to a mixer, interface, or PA.
33 Amp Models, 43 Effects, and an HD DSP Engine
The modeling side of the Spark 2 covers 33 amp models spanning electric, acoustic, and bass voiced sounds, paired with 43 effects including noise gate, compressor, distortion, modulation, EQ, delay, and reverb. Each preset slot can hold up to 3 pre-amp effects, 3 post-amp effects, and one amp model simultaneously — which is a flexible, signal-chain-conscious approach rather than a flat stack of patches.
All the amp models in the Spark app have been remastered for the Spark 2's new HD DSP engine, with improved EQ range, dynamics, and gain staging. If you've used the original Spark 40, the difference in response and detail is noticeable from the first few notes. The AI tone feature lets you describe a sound in the app and receive matching preset suggestions automatically — useful when you have a tone in your head but not the patience to dial it in knob by knob.
Looper, Connectivity, and App Integration
The on-board hardware looper records up to 60 seconds and includes two modes: Count-In Mode, which sets an adjustable loop length and starts recording after a one-bar count-in, and On-Signal Mode, which starts recording automatically when the Spark 2 detects your guitar signal. Looper controls — REC/DUB, PLAY/STOP, and UNDO/REDO/CLEAR — sit right on the top panel alongside LED indicators, so you're never digging through menus mid-session.
Connectivity is well-rounded: Bluetooth 5.0 handles wireless audio streaming and app control, there's a 1/8-inch aux input for backing tracks, a 1/8-inch headphone output for silent practice, dual 1/4-inch stereo line outputs, and USB audio interface functionality for direct recording into your DAW. Wi-Fi support enables over-the-air firmware updates without needing a computer. An optional battery pack (sold separately) extends the Spark 2 to portable use, and the Spark Control X footswitch is compatible for hands-free preset switching.
