Twelve Strings, One Great Starting Point
There's something about a 12-string that fills a room in a way a 6-string just can't match — those doubled courses create a natural chorus effect that makes even simple chord progressions sound lush and full. The Ibanez PF1512NT brings that experience into an accessible, no-fuss package designed for players who want to explore 12-string territory without breaking the bank.
Built around a dreadnought body with a spruce top and Okoume back and sides, the PF1512NT delivers the kind of open, ringing tone that 12-strings are known for. The high-gloss natural finish keeps things clean and classic, letting the wood do the talking. Whether you're strumming open chords around a campfire or layering acoustic tracks in a home studio, this guitar gives you that signature 12-string shimmer right out of the box.
This is a solid choice for acoustic players ready to add a 12-string to their collection, as well as beginners who want to start their 12-string journey on a guitar that won't fight them every step of the way.
Spruce Top, Okoume Body — A Bright, Warm Pairing
Spruce has long been the go-to choice for acoustic guitar tops because of its tonal clarity and dynamic response. On a 12-string, that brightness helps each doubled course ring out distinctly rather than blurring together. The PF1512NT's spruce top gives the guitar a clear, articulate voice whether you're fingerpicking delicate arpeggios or digging in with a full strum.
The Okoume back and sides contribute warmth and a woody, resonant quality to the sound. Okoume is a lighter African hardwood that responds well to both gentle playing and more aggressive strumming, helping keep the overall tone balanced rather than overly bright. The Nyatoh neck adds further midrange richness, and the Laurel fretboard and bridge round out the tonal picture with natural warmth.
Built for Comfortable Playing
One of the biggest concerns with any 12-string is playability — those extra six strings add tension, and if the setup isn't right, even short practice sessions can be a workout. The PF1512NT is set up with a 25.5" scale length and a 45mm nut width, giving the doubled string courses enough room to breathe without stretching your hand into uncomfortable territory. Twenty frets give you plenty of range up the neck.
The Nyatoh neck profile is designed to feel comfortable in hand, and the Laurel fretboard has a smooth, natural feel under your fingers. Chrome die-cast tuners help keep all twelve strings in check, and Ibanez's Advantage™ bridge pins make string changes noticeably easier than old-fashioned pins — a small but genuinely appreciated detail when you're replacing twelve strings at once.
Appointments and Finishing Details
The PF1512NT keeps its looks tidy and traditional: a natural high-gloss finish, a black-and-white multi-layer soundhole rosette, white dot fretboard inlays, and ivory body binding. Nothing flashy, but everything is clean and well-executed for this price range. The guitar ships strung with Ibanez IACS12C strings.
All told, the PF1512NT is the kind of guitar that earns its place in a collection by being honest about what it is — an affordable, well-built 12-string dreadnought that plays and sounds better than its price tag might suggest.
