A Cutaway Dreadnought Ready to Plug In and Play
Not everyone wants to stay acoustic forever — and the Ibanez PF15ECE-NT is built for the player who wants one guitar that handles both worlds. Whether you're working through songs in your bedroom or stepping up to an open mic, the single-cutaway dreadnought body gives you room to strum big and reach high up the neck when inspiration calls for it.
The natural high gloss finish keeps things clean and classic, letting the spruce top do the talking without any extra flash. This is a straightforward, honest guitar — good bones, built-in electronics, and a comfortable neck that won't fight you when you're learning or performing.
It's a natural first (or second) acoustic-electric for the player who's ready to go beyond unplugged, without spending a lot to get there.
Spruce Top and Okoume Body
Spruce has been the go-to choice for acoustic guitar tops for generations, and for good reason — its stiffness-to-weight ratio gives it clear attack and balanced projection across the frequency range. The PF15ECE pairs that spruce top with okoume back and sides, a lightweight African hardwood that contributes a warm, woody character when played fingerstyle and delivers punchy high-mids when you dig in with a pick.
The cutaway dreadnought silhouette combines the full, projecting voice of the traditional dreadnought shape with easy access to the upper frets. It's a practical design that gives you a little more range without giving up any of the body's acoustic volume.
Nyatoh Neck and Laurel Fretboard
The PF15ECE uses a Nyatoh neck — a dense Asian hardwood with tonal properties in the same ballpark as mahogany — topped with a Laurel fretboard for smooth, consistent playability. The nut width comes in at 42mm (about 1.65"), which is standard for a six-string and comfortable for most playing styles.
With 20 frets and a 25.5" scale length, the neck feels familiar if you've played any other standard dreadnought. White dot inlays keep orientation easy, and the chrome die-cast tuners hold pitch reliably for everyday playing. The Ibanez Advantage bridge pins are worth noting — they're shaped with a bulb end that makes string changes faster and easier than traditional tapered pins.
Built-In Electronics for Amplified Performance
When it's time to plug in, the PF15ECE has you covered with an Ibanez undersaddle pickup wired to the AEQ-2T preamp. The AEQ-2T gives you independent bass and treble controls along with a built-in chromatic tuner — and that tuner works even when the guitar isn't connected to an amp, which is a genuinely useful feature for quick stage or practice tuning. Everything runs on a single 9V battery and outputs through a standard 1/4" jack.
The two-band EQ is straightforward to dial in: boost the bass a touch for fingerstyle warmth, roll off a bit of treble to tame a bright room. It's not the most complex preamp on the market, but it covers the bases cleanly and without complication.
