The JEM, Within Reach
The Ibanez JEMJR — short for JEM Junior — is the more accessible entry point into Steve Vai's legendary signature line. It carries the hallmarks that made the JEM famous: the "Tree of Life" fretboard inlay, the signature monkey grip cutout in the upper bout, the lion's claw tremolo cavity, and a double-locking tremolo system. You get all the visual identity and much of the feel of the full JEM series in a guitar that's actually built to be played hard.
The JEMJR-WH comes dressed in an all-white finish — body, headstock, pickguard, knobs, and pickup covers — giving it that unmistakable, stage-ready look. Whether you've been chasing a JEM for years or you're just looking for a fast-playing, expressive instrument with real personality, this is a guitar that earns its keep.
This item is a B-Stock guitar sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is new and has never been previously owned. The photos shown are of the exact instrument you will receive. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed buff through spot. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.
Built for Speed: The Wizard III Neck
The Wizard III is one of Ibanez's most well-known neck profiles — thin, flat, and fast. It's a one-piece maple neck with a 25.5" scale length, measuring 19mm thick at the first fret and 21mm at the twelfth. The nut width comes in at 43mm, and the fretboard radius is a flat 400mmR (about 15.75"), which makes string bending across the full 24-fret range very comfortable.
The fretboard is Jatoba — a dense, reddish-brown tonewoood — with the iconic Tree of Life vine inlay running its full length. You'll find 24 jumbo frets, a locking nut, and 10.5mm string spacing at the bridge. It's a neck designed to get out of the way and let you play.
Tones from Three Quantum Pickups
The JEMJR-WH runs an H/S/H Quantum pickup set — a ceramic-loaded humbucker at the neck, an Alnico single-coil in the middle, and another ceramic humbucker at the bridge. All three are passive. The result is a wide tonal range in a 5-way switching setup: you get the warmth and body of the neck humbucker, the clarity and quack of the middle single-coil, and the output and attack of the bridge humbucker.
All hardware is finished in Cosmo Black, including the double-locking tremolo bridge. The locking system keeps tuning stable even under heavy use, which is a genuine advantage if you're making use of the tremolo arm regularly.
The JEM Details That Matter
The Meranti body is a solid double-cutaway, giving you full access to the upper frets. The monkey grip — the carved handle in the upper bout — is one of the most recognizable features of the JEM line and is present here in full. The lion's claw rout behind the tremolo is another JEM-specific detail that made it onto the JEMJR.
String gauge runs .009–.042, factory tuned to standard E. The guitar is made in Indonesia and built to Ibanez's consistent quality standard for this price range.
