The Banjo That Plays Like a Guitar — Because It Basically Does

You've always had a thing for that banjo sound — the snap, the twang, the way it cuts right through a mix — but the thought of relearning your whole fretting hand from scratch has kept it on the wishlist. The Washburn B6-A is built for exactly that situation. It's a genuine open-back banjo with a genuine banjo voice, but it's strung and tuned EADGBE, just like your guitar.

Part of Washburn's Americana Series, the B6-A features an 11" distressed Remo head that gives it a warmer, fuller tone than a standard bright head — a little more old-time character right out of the box. The open-back design keeps the sound direct and present without the added projection of a resonator, which makes it well-suited for smaller rooms, porch picking, or sitting in with an acoustic group.

This is a used example in Excellent condition — a great opportunity to get into a versatile, guitar-friendly banjo without paying new pricing.

This Washburn Americana B6-A is in Excellent condition. The guitar is fully functional and will go through a full tech set up prior to shipping. It has a light play wear. Please review the photos carefully for full condition.

Mahogany Rim and Neck — Warm From the Ground Up

The B6-A builds its tone from a mahogany rim paired with a mahogany neck. Mahogany tends to push the low-mids forward and soften the top end a little — which pairs naturally with the distressed Remo head to produce a round, full banjo voice that isn't harsh or brittle. The 11" notched tension hoop uses 24 brackets, giving you even head tension across the whole drum for consistent response.

The neck runs a comfortable 25.5" scale length — the same as a standard electric guitar — with 22 frets and a rosewood fingerboard. The 1.69" nut width is familiar territory for most guitar players, so you won't need to rethink your chord shapes or hand position.

Hardware Built for Stability and Feel

Die-cast chrome tuners hold tuning reliably through a full set, and the ebony-tipped maple bridge provides solid contact and tone transfer across all six strings. A standard chrome armrest adds comfort for longer playing sessions — a nice touch that often goes unmentioned but players appreciate once they've had it.

The 6-string tailpiece anchors the D'Addario strings securely, and the overall chrome hardware gives the B6-A a clean, classic look that fits the Americana aesthetic without being fussy about it.
