Peace, Strings, and a Little Bit of Hawaiian Spirit
The word "Maluhia" means peace in Hawaiian, and Luna took that idea seriously when they designed this soprano ukulele. The top is laser-etched with a peace sign at the sound hole and the word "peace" written in dozens of languages — forming a continuous ring across the soundboard. It's a conversation starter before you've played a single note.
Beneath the artwork is an all-eastern mahogany build — top, back, sides, and neck — which gives this little soprano a warm, full sound that tends to surprise people who expect something thinner from a starter uke. The 13" scale and 1 3/8" nut width keep things compact and comfortable, making it easy to pick up and start playing right away.
The walnut fretboard and bridge add a bit of visual contrast to the natural mahogany finish, and the pearloid open-gear tuners are easy to work with and hold tune reliably. If you're looking for a soprano ukulele that's got some personality without sacrificing playability, the Maluhia checks both boxes.
Built Around Mahogany
Luna specifies "all eastern mahogany construction" on the Maluhia — that means mahogany top, back, sides, and neck working together. Mahogany is known for producing a warm, slightly midrange-forward tone with good sustain, which suits the naturally bright character of a soprano ukulele quite well. The two tend to balance each other out nicely.
The satin natural finish lets the mahogany grain show through cleanly without adding heavy lacquer that can dampen resonance. It also gives the instrument a more tactile, organic feel in your hands.
The Artwork Is the Whole Point
Luna's designs aren't just cosmetic afterthoughts — they're usually the reason someone picks up a particular model in the first place. The Maluhia's laser-etched soundboard features a peace sign carved into the sound hole surround, with the word "peace" rendered in multiple languages — Hawaiian, Latin, German, French, Arabic, Hebrew, Spanish, and more — spiraling outward across the top.
The etching is done with a laser, giving it fine detail and a slightly textured feel that you can actually run your finger across. It's the kind of thing that makes this ukulele easy to display when it's not being played.
Specs That Make Sense for a Soprano
The 13" scale length is right in line with standard soprano sizing, and the 12 frets are plenty for most chord and melody work in the soprano range. Pearloid pearl dot inlays mark the positions along the walnut fretboard, and the walnut bridge keeps the aesthetic cohesive. The set neck construction provides a stable, reliable neck joint.
The nut width comes in at 1 3/8" — a comfortable width that gives you enough space between strings without feeling crowded, particularly for smaller hands. Aquila Super Nylgut strings are the standard fit on most Luna ukuleles and are well-regarded in the uke community for their consistent feel and intonation.
