The Devil's Horns in a Bold New Hue

Since 1961, the SG has been the choice of players who want a guitar that's fast, light, and utterly uncompromising. This SG Standard in Pelham Blue Burst takes the late-'60s spec that made the model famous and dresses it in one of Gibson's most striking vintage-inspired finishes from the Custom Color Series. If you've ever wanted a guitar that looks as good hanging on the wall as it does strapped on stage, this is it.

The SG's double-cutaway design isn't just iconic — it's incredibly functional. You get effortless access to all 22 frets, a lightweight mahogany body that won't wear you down during long sets, and a rounded neck profile that feels like it was carved specifically for your hand. The 490R and 490T Alnico II humbuckers deliver everything from warm, singing sustain to aggressive bite, and the gloss nitrocellulose finish lets the wood breathe while aging beautifully over time.

Whether you're into classic rock, blues, or heavier styles, the SG Standard has been there from the beginning. This Pelham Blue Burst finish gives you all the heritage with a fresh visual twist that stands out in any collection.

Mahogany Tonewood and Long-Tenon Construction

The SG Standard's solid mahogany body is the foundation of its legendary tone. Mahogany delivers a warm, rich voice with excellent sustain and harmonic depth, and because the SG's body is thinner and lighter than a Les Paul, you get all that resonance without the weight. The long-tenon neck joint extends the mahogany neck deep into the body at the 19th fret, adding structural integrity and a noticeable bump in sustain and resonance. This is classic Gibson construction done right.

The bound rosewood fingerboard is smooth under your fingers, with acrylic trapezoid inlays and a comfortable 12-inch radius that works equally well for rhythm chording and lead runs. The rounded neck profile — inspired by late-'60s SG models — offers that fast, slim feel players have loved for decades. And with Plek technology used to level and dress the frets, you'll find low action and effortless playability right out of the case.

490R and 490T Alnico II Humbuckers

Gibson's 490R (neck) and 490T (bridge) humbuckers are voiced to capture the character of classic late-period PAF pickups, but with a slight bump in the upper mids for a more contemporary edge. The 490R in the neck position delivers smooth, singing tones with plenty of warmth — perfect for blues, jazz, or mellower passages. The 490T at the bridge has more bite and definition, cutting through the mix with clarity and punch.

These pickups are wonderfully responsive to your playing dynamics. Roll back the volume and tone controls, and you'll find they clean up beautifully for chimey, articulate tones. Push them hard with overdrive or distortion, and they deliver the thick, snarling voice the SG is famous for. Two volume knobs, two tone knobs, and a three-way toggle switch give you straightforward, proven control over your sound.

Classic Hardware and Nitrocellulose Finish

The SG Standard comes equipped with an aluminum Nashville Tune-o-Matic bridge and aluminum stopbar tailpiece, both contributing to stable intonation and the SG's signature sustain. Grover Rotomatic tuners with kidney buttons provide smooth, reliable tuning stability, and all hardware is finished in chrome. The black 5-ply full-face pickguard is a signature SG detail that adds visual punch and protects the body from pick wear.

The gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish is thinner than modern polyurethane finishes, allowing the wood to resonate more freely and contributing to the guitar's overall tone. Nitro also ages beautifully, developing a natural patina over time. This Pelham Blue Burst finish is part of Gibson's Custom Color Series, offering a vintage-inspired hue that's been a Gibson favorite since the 1960s.
