Classic Les Paul Design in a Bold Ebony Finish
There's something special about a Les Paul in an all-black finish. The Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s Plain Top in Ebony brings you straight back to the guitars that defined rock and roll's golden era — no fancy flame tops, no sunburst gradients, just pure, unapologetic attitude wrapped in gloss nitrocellulose lacquer. This is the Les Paul that walked on stage with legends, and it's ready to do the same for you.
This guitar doesn't cut corners on construction. You get a solid mahogany body with a plain maple top — the classic recipe that gives you warmth, sustain, and that signature midrange punch Les Pauls are known for. There's no weight relief here, so you're getting the full resonance and sustain of traditional construction. The 60s-style SlimTaper mahogany neck profile feels fast and comfortable whether you're playing first-position chords or soloing up high. It's the neck profile that defined an era, and it still feels right today.
Who's this guitar for? If you're drawn to classic rock, blues, or anything that demands thick, powerful tone, this is your instrument. The Ebony finish makes it equally at home in a hard rock band or a jazz trio. It's for players who appreciate heritage and craftsmanship without needing the flash of a figured top.
60s Burstbucker Pickups Deliver Vintage-Inspired Tone
The 60s Burstbucker pickups are loaded with Alnico 5 magnets and wired to audio taper potentiometers and Orange Drop capacitors. Gibson designed these pickups to recapture the magic of the original Patent Applied For humbuckers from the late '50s and early '60s. They successfully capture the subtle variations of true, classic humbucker tone with historically unbalanced coil windings and Alnico 5 magnets. What does that mean for you? An airy, open tone with clarity that cuts through a mix, and when you push them into overdrive, they deliver that slightly enhanced high-end sparkle that made vintage Les Pauls famous.
The hand-wired electronics feature the classic Les Paul control layout: two volumes, two tones, and a 3-way toggle switch. You can blend the neck and bridge pickups in any ratio you want, dialing in everything from warm jazz tones to snarling rock leads. The controls are topped with gold Top Hat knobs with silver reflectors — a detail pulled straight from early '60s Les Paul Standard models.
Traditional Hardware and Playability
It's equipped with a classic ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece, Grover Rotomatic "Kidney" tuners, and gold Top Hat knobs with silver reflectors. The ABR-1 bridge is the original Les Paul bridge design, offering excellent intonation and sustain. A Graph Tech nut works in partnership with the Grover tuners, ABR-1 bridge, and aluminum stopbar tailpiece to keep your tuning rock-solid through bends and vibrato.
The rosewood fingerboard features a 12-inch radius that balances comfortable chord work with easy string bending. You get 22 medium jumbo frets, and the bound fingerboard is inlaid with acrylic trapezoid markers — the iconic Les Paul look. The scale length is 24.75 inches, giving you that slightly slinkier feel compared to 25.5-inch scale guitars. The nut width measures 1.694 inches (43.05mm), sitting comfortably between vintage and modern neck dimensions.
The gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish isn't just about looks — it lets the wood breathe and age naturally. Over time, this finish will wear and develop character based on how you play, making your guitar uniquely yours.
