Eight Strings, One Seriously Fast Neck

Maybe you've been itching to drop into that low F# territory. Maybe you want chord voicings that just don't exist on a six-string. Or maybe you just want to hear what happens when a tried-and-true RG body shape gets two extra strings and a 27-inch scale. Whatever brought you here, the Ibanez RG8 in White is ready to deliver.

The RG8 is part of Ibanez's long-running RG Standard series — a line that's been a staple of the metal and hard rock world for decades. This is a solidbody 8-string with a Meranti body, a five-piece Maple/Walnut Wizard II-8 neck, and a Jatoba fretboard with 24 jumbo frets. It ships from the factory set to a drop-D# tuning, but the extended scale and fixed bridge make it equally comfortable for standard 8-string tunings or anything in between.

This is a great pick for the guitarist who wants to explore extended-range playing without jumping into boutique territory. The RG8 keeps the familiar RG double-cutaway form factor while expanding the tonal palette well into bass-register territory.

This item is a B-Stock guitar sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is new and has never been previously owned. The photos shown are of the exact instrument you will receive. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed Factory flaw by pickup selector. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.

The Wizard II-8 Neck: Built for Speed Across All Eight Strings

The Wizard neck has been Ibanez's signature calling card for fast, low-action playing for generations, and the Wizard II-8 brings that same philosophy to an 8-string format. The five-piece Maple/Walnut construction keeps the neck stiff and stable — important on a 27-inch scale where tension runs higher than your typical six-string. The neck attaches via a bolt-on joint and carries a satin polyurethane finish for a smooth, broken-in feel right out of the box.

The Jatoba fretboard spans a 15.75-inch (400mm) radius — on the flatter side, which players who do a lot of bending tend to appreciate. At the nut, the neck measures 55mm wide, expanding to 80mm at the 24th fret, with a thickness of 20mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the 12th. The 10.5mm string spacing keeps things manageable even for players transitioning from a six- or seven-string.

Meranti Body and the F108 Fixed Bridge

The solidbody Meranti construction gives the RG8 a balanced tonal character — responsive across the full string range without getting muddy on those low notes. The double-cutaway RG body shape keeps upper-fret access open all the way to fret 24, which matters when you're 8 strings into a riff and need to reach the top of the neck.

The F108 fixed bridge is strung through the body, which contributes to sustain and tuning stability. Individual saddles make intonation adjustments straightforward, and with the 27-inch scale doing its part to keep string tension consistent, the whole setup stays reliably in tune — even with the factory drop tuning of 1D#, 2A#, 3F#, 4C#, 5G#, 6D#, 7A#, 8F.

IBZ-8 Humbuckers: Wired for the Low End

Both pickup positions use Ibanez's IBZ-8 humbuckers in a passive ceramic configuration — one at the neck, one at the bridge. These are designed specifically for 8-string frequency response, meaning they're voiced to stay clear and articulate on the lowest strings rather than turning to mush under high gain. A 3-way pickup selector, single master volume, and master tone keep the control layout simple and intuitive.

The hardware throughout is finished in black, which pairs cleanly with the white gloss body. Ibanez die-cast tuning machines handle tuning stability on all eight posts.
