Body & Construction
The GRX70QA is built on a solid poplar body topped with a Quilted Maple Art Grain surface — an eye-catching visual detail that gives this guitar a more premium look than you'd expect at this price point. The double-cutaway body shape allows easy access up the neck, and the gloss polyester finish seals everything cleanly.
Poplar is a lightweight toneword that responds well across the frequency range — nothing bloated in the low end, nothing brittle up top. It's a practical choice for a versatile guitar, and the quilted maple art grain top makes it genuinely beautiful to look at while you play.
Neck, Fretboard & Playability
Ibanez's GRX maple neck is bolt-on construction, measuring 42mm at the nut and tapering to 57mm at the 22nd fret. At 19.5mm thick at the first fret and 21.5mm at the 12th, it's on the slimmer side — a neck profile Ibanez has refined over decades to feel fast and comfortable. The 25.5" scale length keeps string tension in a familiar, comfortable range.
The Jatoba fretboard has a 305mm (12") radius — flatter than a vintage-style board, which means less tendency to fret out on bends up the neck. 22 medium frets give you plenty of range, and white dot inlays keep navigation simple. String spacing at the bridge is 10.5mm, which pairs naturally with the scale for a smooth feel across all six strings.
Pickups, Controls & Hardware
The HSH pickup layout uses three Infinity pickups: Infinity R humbuckers at the neck and bridge (both passive/ceramic), and an Infinity RS single-coil in the middle — also passive/ceramic. Together they cover a wide tonal map through the 5-way selector switch. Volume and tone controls round out the electronics in a clean, no-fuss layout.
At the bridge, the T106 tremolo system features six independent saddles for precise individual string intonation and height adjustment. The arm adds vibrato and controlled dive effects — a practical tremolo for everyday use. All hardware is finished in chrome.
