Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed flaws on top. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.
Body, Feel, and Fretboard
The AZ22S2 is built on a solid alder body finished in gloss polyester Black. Alder is a longtime favorite for S-style guitars — it's lightweight, resonant, and contributes to that balanced, articulate tone that sits well in a mix. The Super All Access Neck Joint opens up the upper frets without fighting your picking hand.
The one-piece roasted maple neck is heat-treated to improve stability, reduce moisture absorption, and keep the neck from moving around with seasonal humidity swings. The AZ profile is comfortable whether you prefer a thumb-over grip or a classical position. Neck thickness measures 20.5mm at the 1st fret and 22.5mm at the 12th — it's on the slimmer side without feeling too thin. The jatoba fingerboard adds a reddish-brown warmth visually, and sonically sits somewhere in the rosewood neighborhood with a crisp high-end bite. Twenty-two jumbo stainless steel frets round things out — stainless is harder, more wear-resistant, and gives you a slightly slicker feel for bending and vibrato. Scale length is the standard 25.5" with a 12" (305mm) radius and white dot inlays.
Pickups and Switching
The AZ22S2 runs an HSS configuration: two Ibanez Classic Custom passive single-coils at the neck and middle (Alnico magnets) and a Classic Custom humbucker at the bridge (ceramic magnet). Together, they cover a wide range of tones — from clear, bell-like neck tones to thick, driven bridge sounds.
What sets this guitar apart from a typical five-way S-style is the dyna-MIX9 switching system with Alter Switch. That mini switch flips the circuit into an alternate mode, expanding the available combinations from the standard five to nine total. One mode even runs the two single-coils together to simulate a humbucking tone. Controls are straightforward: master volume, master tone, and the 5-way lever. The pickguard is 3-ply white pearloid — a small detail, but it looks great against the black finish.
Hardware and Tuning Stability
The T106 tremolo bridge features six independent saddles, with 10.5mm string spacing that makes palm muting feel natural and precise. Ibanez locking machine heads are included from the factory — you can lock strings at the tuner post to reduce slippage and keep tuning stable through tremolo use and string bends. All hardware is chrome.
