The YTS-62IIIA is the third generation of that legacy, and the amber lacquer finish gives it a look that's every bit as distinctive as the instrument beneath it.
The "A" suffix on this model means you're getting the amber lacquer variant — a warm, honey-toned finish that catches light differently than the standard gold lacquer and sets this horn apart visually without changing a note of what it sounds like. Underneath, everything that makes the 62 series a working musician's go-to is exactly where you'd expect it to be.

You still get a comfortable, natural airflow — just more of it going exactly where you intend.
The professional-grade neck receiver is another thoughtful detail. It creates a tighter connection between neck and body for richer resonance, and it opens the door to upgrade options: the receiver is compatible with Yamaha's Custom Z and Custom EX necks, so your sound can grow with you over time.
Keywork Built to Hold Up
Integrated key posts — sometimes called "ribbed" construction — mount multiple posts onto a single plate rather than attaching each individually to the tube. The result is a body with higher mass, better rigidity, and a tone response that players often describe as more focused and centered. The horn blows with moderate resistance, which helps develop consistent breath support and keeps your sound core solid.
Hard steel needle springs power the key action, delivering a fast, sensitive response that keeps up with demanding passages. The redesigned low B–C# connection ensures reliable sealing in the lower register — a detail that sounds small until it isn't there. Auxiliary keys include a High F# and a front F, and the adjustable thumb hook lets you dial in your right-hand position for long practice sessions or performances.
Hand Engraving and an Amber Finish
The bell on the YTS-62IIIA is hand engraved with a more elaborate, detail-rich design than previous generations. On the amber lacquer model, this engraving is performed after lacquering, which creates an increased visual contrast between the engraved lines and the warm amber background. The result is a horn that looks like it means business without trying too hard.
The annealing process applied to the neck, body, bow, and bell softens the brass at a molecular level, which Yamaha notes improves response and tone color throughout the instrument — not just in one register, but across the full range of the horn.
