D'Angelico Excel Style B - Black
This item is a "B-Stock Guitar" directly from the manufacturer. It is NEW Stock that has never been owned. Pictures are of the actual guitar you will receive.
A "B-Stock Guitar" is a guitar that won't have structural or playability issues but could possibly have some particular minor cosmetic flaw which can keep it from passing the rigorous inspection process put in place by the guitar manufacturer. These guitars do not come with manufacture warranty.
we will have our licensed tech go over the guitar and set it up for you. On this guitar D’Angelico didn't state what the issue was and we did not notice the flaw so somewhere there will be a small imperfection on the guitar we did notice the gig bag that came with it was too large so that may be the reason.
If you’re looking for a unique vintage-styled hollowbody electric guitar, we heartily recommend giving the D’Angelico Excel Style B a serious audition. Originally designed by John D’Angelico in 1936, the Excel Style B is a rare gem among D’Angelico’s archtop offerings. The beautifully detailed mother-of-pearl floral deco headstock design and signature Style B logo on the Scalini pickguard contribute to the guitar’s unmistakably authentic vibe. Featuring a slightly smaller body size and fast Slim C neck profile, the Style B is very comfortable to play. With the sonic signature of an acoustic guitar and — courtesy of its floating mini humbucker — the power and tonal dexterity of an electric hollowbody, the D’Angelico Excel Style B is the quintessential jazzbox.
Fast, comfortable 3-piece neck and silky smooth fingerboard
Playing the D’Angelico Excel Style B is sheer joy. Its bound, 3-piece maple/rosewood neck boasts a comfortable Slim C profile, and its 16"-radius fingerboard features 22 medium-jumbo frets. This silky smooth rosewood fretboard enables comfortable chording while facilitating technically demanding leads. The instrument’s easy hand feel is a byproduct of its 25" scale length, which makes bends and vibrato feel effortless. For rock-solid tuning stability, the Excel Style B is equipped with Grover Imperial Rotomatic locking tuners, while a bone nut bolsters sustain and reduces string binding.
Kent Armstrong humbucker delivers warm, clear jazz tone
Kent Armstrong, the son of legendary luthier/designer Dan Armstrong, got his start by rewinding pickups in his father’s 48th street New York guitar repair shop. It wasn’t long before Kent started designing pickups from scratch. Today, Kent is recognized as one of the foremost pickup designers in the industry. The D’Angelico Excel Style B features one of Kent’s acclaimed floating mini humbuckers, which — assisted by the instrument’s floating ebony bridge and bone nut — serves warm, clear, eat-it-with-a-spoon jazz tones that you can shape to taste with the guitar’s onboard tone control.
The D’Angelico legacy
After mastering his craft during an 18-year apprenticeship, luthier John D’Angelico opened his own shop in Manhattan’s Little Italy in 1932. Catering to New York’s many jazz musicians over the ensuing three decades, D’Angelico and a single apprentice became New York’s foremost stringed instrument builders, creating over one thousand treasured archtop guitars until John’s death in 1964. After his passing, the D’Angelico’s legacy lived on only through his rare, legendary instruments. After decades, the D’Angelico brand has resurfaced, bringing back the playability and attention to detail of the company’s New York roots. Today, we are delighted to offer this fine line of distinguished instruments. D’Angelico uses state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and the finest available materials to create playable works of art for today’s guitarist. From a modest shop in Little Italy to the world stage, D’Angelico’s dedication to quality craftsmanship ensures that this brand won’t be going dormant again any time soon.
