A Parlor Guitar That Earns Its Keep on the Road and at Home
There's something genuinely special about a guitar you can grab off the wall, toss in a bag, and take anywhere — and the Yamaha CSF3M is exactly that kind of instrument. It's a compact parlor-style acoustic-electric built around all-solid tonewoods, forward-shifted scalloped bracing, and a passive undersaddle pickup, all wrapped in a rich Tobacco Brown Sunburst finish. On paper it sounds like a well-specified travel guitar. In practice, it sounds like a whole lot more.
The CSF series draws a direct line back to the parlor guitars of early 20th-century American folk music — small, focused, easy to carry. Yamaha brought this format back in 2018 with meaningful upgrades: scalloped bracing more commonly found on higher-end acoustics, all-solid construction throughout, and an onboard pickup that doesn't require batteries. The result is a guitar that earns its spot in a working player's rotation, not just as a travel companion but as a genuine recording and performing instrument.
Whether you're a fingerpicker looking for an intimate, responsive feel, a songwriter who wants something comfortable at home on the couch, or a gigging player who needs a reliable second guitar that fits in an overhead bin, the CSF3M covers a lot of ground.
This item is a B-Stock guitar sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is new and has never been previously owned. The photos shown are of the exact instrument you will receive. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed ROUGH CUT BINDING. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.
All-Solid Construction in a Compact Package
The CSF3M's biggest calling card is what's under the finish: a solid Sitka spruce top paired with solid mahogany back and sides. That's meaningful — the difference between laminate and solid tonewoods in this size range is easy to hear, and the CSF3M delivers real resonance and sustain that laminate-bodied competitors in this price range typically can't match. Solid mahogany back and sides add warmth and body to the spruce top's natural clarity and projection.
Yamaha's forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing is what makes the compact body punch above its weight. The bracing is designed to maximize resonance and bass response — areas where small-bodied guitars often fall short. The result is a voice that's focused and clear without being thin, with enough low-end to feel complete even when you're not plugged in.
The gloss body finish on the Tobacco Brown Sunburst gives the guitar a classic, well-dressed look. The bound body features black-and-white binding, and the soundhole rosette incorporates abalone detailing — small touches that keep the aesthetic from feeling stripped-down.
Short Scale, Easy Playing
The CSF3M's 23 5/8" (600mm) scale length is notably shorter than a standard dreadnought. That translates to reduced string tension, closer fret spacing, and a guitar that generally feels very approachable — especially for players who find full-size dreadnoughts a reach, or anyone whose fingers appreciate a little more forgiveness. The 1.69" (43mm) nut width keeps things comfortable without feeling cramped.
The nato neck — a hardwood with density and character similar to mahogany — carries a rosewood fingerboard and rosewood bridge, adding tonal depth to the overall picture. The die-cast chrome tuners keep things in tune reliably, and Yamaha ships the CSF3M strung up with Elixir strings, which tend to stay fresh-feeling significantly longer than standard strings.
Passive Pickup, Zero Batteries Required
When it's time to plug in, the CSF3M uses Yamaha's SRT Zero-Impact passive piezo pickup system — the same design found in Yamaha's respected L-Series acoustic-electrics. "Passive" here means no battery compartment, no preamp, no 9-volt to replace at the worst possible moment. You just plug into an amp, DI, or PA and go.
The undersaddle design puts an individual sensor under each string for balanced, natural-sounding amplified tone. It's a straightforward, dependable system that works well as a direct stage tool. Players who want onboard EQ will want to run through a preamp or DI box, but for clean, uncolored acoustic signal, the passive SRT is a solid choice.
