A Workhorse Acoustic-Electric That's Ready to Gig

There's a certain kind of guitar that just gets out of your way — one that sounds good unplugged at home, holds its own on a stage, and doesn't require you to overthink it. The Yamaha A1M TBS is that guitar. With a solid Sitka spruce top, a scalloped bracing pattern developed through Yamaha's own acoustic research, and the company's trusted SRT piezo pickup system, it covers a lot of ground without asking much in return.

The Tobacco Brown Sunburst finish gives it a warm vintage character that pairs naturally with the mahogany back and sides. The traditional western dreadnought body with cutaway keeps things familiar, and the slim tapered neck profile with hand-rolled fingerboard edges means the guitar feels like it's been broken in from day one — even when it hasn't.

This is a solid choice for players who want an honest, well-built acoustic-electric that handles both living room practice and live performance without requiring a second mortgage or a degree in guitar electronics.

This item is a B-Stock guitar sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is new and has never been previously owned. The photos shown are of the exact instrument you will receive. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed Upper bout inlay edges have some small cosmetic imperfections. Color wear on rosette edge.. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.

Solid Top, Scalloped Bracing — Real Acoustic Projection

The A1M's solid Sitka spruce top is the heart of the instrument. Sitka spruce is one of the most widely used tonewoods for acoustic guitar tops precisely because it handles a wide dynamic range — it responds equally well to a gentle fingerpicked pattern as it does to an aggressive open-chord strum. The scalloped X-brace pattern allows the top to vibrate more freely, which Yamaha's R&D team developed to push the guitar's low-mid projection forward and give it more room to breathe acoustically.

The mahogany back and sides add warmth and a focused midrange character. Mahogany's natural tendency toward a punchy, quick-responding midrange complements the Sitka top well, rounding out the overall tone without muddying the lows. The gloss body finish and mahogany body binding round out the look with a clean, finished presentation.

Neck Feel: Slim, Tapered, and Ready for Long Sessions

Yamaha designed the A1M's neck with real-world playability in mind. The slim, tapered profile features hand-rolled fingerboard edges — meaning the sharp transition where the fretboard meets the binding has been smoothed out so your fretting hand glides along the neck rather than catching on it. It's the kind of ergonomic detail that makes a noticeable difference during an extended set or practice session.

The rosewood fingerboard spans 20 frets with a 25.5" (650mm) scale length and a 1 11/16" (43mm) nut width — proportions that feel comfortable for both open chord strumming and single-note work up the neck. The cutaway gives easy access to the higher frets, which is particularly useful when the SRT pickup is engaged and you're playing lead lines through a PA.

SRT Pickup and System 66 Preamp — Stage-Ready Electronics

The SRT (Studio Response Technology) under-saddle piezo pickup is Yamaha's own design, built to capture the acoustic character of the guitar as naturally as possible when plugged in. Paired with the System 66 preamp, you get a practical, no-nonsense control set: volume, a built-in chromatic tuner, 3-band EQ (bass, mid, treble), and an AMF automatic midrange frequency slider that lets you fine-tune the mid frequencies on the fly. No extra menus, no complicated signal chains — just useful controls in a straightforward layout.

The die-cast chrome tuners keep things in tune reliably, and the tortoise-pattern pickguard adds a classic visual touch that suits the Tobacco Brown Sunburst finish well. Whether you're playing an acoustic coffeehouse set or plugging into a full live rig, the A1M's electronics give you the tools to dial in a useful sound quickly.
