RG Speed and Style, Ready to Shred

The Ibanez RG series has been the go-to platform for fast, aggressive playing since the late '80s — and the RG421DX carries that tradition forward with modern specs at a no-nonsense price point. If you've ever wanted an RG with the iconic Sharktooth inlays and a finish that actually turns heads, the Twilight Shade sand-through look delivers a deep, layered metallic blue that's hard to miss under stage lights.

This is a straightforward, high-performance solid body electric guitar built around the things RG players care about most: a slim, fast neck, reliable fixed hardware, and pickups that stay clear and defined even when you push the gain hard. Whether you're working through technical riffs or need a dependable rhythm platform, the RG421DX is dialed in for exactly that kind of work.

Players who want a proven, player-focused instrument with the RG pedigree — without locking tremolo complexity or a hefty price tag — will feel right at home with the RG421DX.

This item is a B-Stock guitar sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is new and has never been previously owned. The photos shown are of the exact instrument you will receive. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed sand through spot on the top. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.

A Body Built for Tone and Speed

The RG421DX is built on a solid meranti body — a Southeast Asian hardwood with physical properties similar to mahogany, producing a well-balanced tone with a slightly scooped midrange. That natural EQ curve is a natural fit for modern rock and metal, where a recessed mid helps high-gain tones stay punchy and defined rather than muddy.

The classic RG double-cutaway shape keeps upper-fret access wide open, and the gloss polyurethane finish on the body gives the Twilight Shade color that deep, metallic sheen. All hardware is finished in black — a clean, unified look that matches the aggressive aesthetic of the instrument.

The Wizard III Neck: Thin, Fast, and Proven

The bolt-on Wizard III maple neck is one of Ibanez's most recognized and trusted neck profiles. It's deliberately flat and slim — designed to minimize hand fatigue during long playing sessions and let your fretting hand move quickly across the board. The satin polyurethane finish on the back of the neck keeps things smooth and friction-free, so your hand glides rather than drags.

The 25.5" scale jatoba fingerboard spans 24 jumbo frets, giving you a full two-octave range. Jatoba (also called Brazilian Cherry) brings a focused midrange with a crisp high end — a nice complement to the meranti body's natural scooped character. White Sharktooth inlays keep fretboard navigation intuitive while giving the neck that signature RG look. Nut width is 43mm, and the fingerboard radius is 400mm (roughly 15.75"), keeping the board feeling flat and fast.

Quantum Pickups and Simple, Effective Controls

Ibanez loaded the RG421DX with a pair of Quantum humbucker pickups — passive, ceramic-magnet units in both the neck and bridge positions. The Quantum pickups are voiced for quick low-end response and precise note definition, which matters a lot when you're playing fast staccato riffs or intricate lead passages. They handle high-gain applications cleanly, keeping individual notes separated rather than blurring together.

The control layout is refreshingly uncluttered: one volume knob, one tone knob, and a 5-way lever pickup selector. The 5-way switch gives you access to both individual pickups and parallel combinations for broader tonal options. Rounding out the hardware is the F106 fixed bridge — a hardtail design that enhances sustain and allows independent string height adjustment for easy setup work. The mono-unit output jack is built as a single piece to prevent the loosening and contact issues that plague traditional two-piece jacks over time.
