A Solid Start in Transparent Red
If you've been looking for a no-fuss 4-string that actually feels good to play without costing a fortune, the Ibanez GSR200 Gio in Transparent Red is worth a look. It's part of Ibanez's long-running Sound Gear family — a line known for slim, comfortable necks and reliable builds — brought down to an accessible price point without gutting the things that make a bass fun to play.
The Transparent Red finish lets the grain show through in a way that gives it real visual character. You get a P/J pickup setup, an active bass boost, and a neck that won't fight your hand. It's a bass that gets out of the way and lets you focus on playing.
This is a great fit for anyone picking up their first bass, or a gigging player looking for a dependable backup that isn't afraid to take some wear.
This item is a B-Stock guitar sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is new and has never been previously owned. The photos shown are of the exact instrument you will receive. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed Sand through. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.
Body and Neck: Light, Comfortable, and Easy to Play
The GSR200 is built around a poplar body — a wood that keeps the overall weight light and manageable. The bolt-on maple neck uses Ibanez's GSR4 profile, which is notably slim and quick-feeling. Whether you're sitting on the couch practicing or standing through a long rehearsal, this neck doesn't fatigue your fretting hand.
The jatoba fretboard has a 12-inch radius (305mm) and 22 medium frets, with white dot inlays for clean position marking. Jatoba has a warm reddish-brown tone to it and produces a rich midrange with a crisp high end. Neck dimensions are tight and consistent: 41mm wide at the nut, 21mm thick at the 1st fret, 22mm at the 12th.
Scale length is the full standard 34 inches, so this is a full-size bass with all the low-end depth that comes with it. The B10 bridge handles intonation and tuning stability, with 19mm string spacing that works well for players of all hand sizes.
Pickups and Electronics: PJ Versatility with an Active Boost
The GSR200 pairs a Dynamix P neck pickup with a Dynamix J bridge pickup — both passive single-coil designs. This P/J combination is one of the most versatile arrangements in bass guitar. The P pickup in the neck delivers that classic, punchy, mid-focused thump; the J pickup at the bridge adds brightness, clarity, and a bit of bite. Blending the two gives you a wide tonal range that covers a lot of musical ground.
What makes the GSR200 stand out from other basses in this price range is the Phat II EQ — Ibanez's active bass boost circuit. It's controlled by a dedicated fourth knob, separate from the individual volume knobs and the master tone. When you need more low-end weight, dial in the Phat II and the bottom fills out noticeably. It's a simple but genuinely useful feature. The rest of the control layout is intuitive: one volume for the neck pickup, one for the bridge, and a master tone.
