open-pore-vintage-sunburst-top-natural-mahogany-back-and-sides
Ibanez PF54 Open Pore Vintage Sunburst Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

A Full-Size Dreadnought That Doesn't Ask You to Compromise

There's something satisfying about picking up a guitar that just works — no fussing over setup, no wondering if you're getting shortchanged on tone. The Ibanez PF54 in Open Pore Vintage Sunburst is exactly that kind of guitar. It's part of Ibanez's PF Performance series, and it's built around a classic dreadnought shape that's been earning its keep in living rooms, campfires, and practice spaces for generations.

The open-pore polyurethane finish is one of the first things you'll notice. It gives the guitar a more natural, tactile feel compared to a thick gloss coating — the kind of finish that warms up quickly in your hands and doesn't feel like you're playing a piece of lacquered furniture. The vintage sunburst top shades from a warm amber center out to darker edges, giving it a traditional look that holds up nicely.

This is a guitar that suits players who want a dependable, comfortable instrument without a complicated learning curve. Whether you're just getting started or looking for a reliable beater to keep around the house, the PF54 is a solid choice.

Meranti Construction — Top, Back, and Sides

The PF54's body is built entirely from meranti — top, back, and sides. Meranti is a Southeast Asian hardwood that produces a warm, balanced tone with clear highs and a solid low end. It's not as widely discussed as spruce or mahogany, but players often find it delivers a pleasing, even sound that works well for strumming chords or simple fingerpicking.

The dreadnought body shape does what dreadnoughts do best: project with authority and fill a room. The meranti construction keeps the overall character warm and musical, without any harsh peaks that can make a guitar tiring to listen to over long sessions.

Neck, Fretboard, and Playability

The PF54 uses a meranti neck with Ibanez's PF profile — a shape designed to feel comfortable across a wide range of hand sizes. The nut width comes in at 42mm (approximately 1.65"), which is a standard width that most players find accommodating for both chord work and single-note runs. The 25.5" scale length gives the strings enough tension to stay in tune without feeling stiff under your fingers.

The fretboard is nandu wood, with a 250mm (approximately 10") radius and 20 frets. Nandu is a dense, smooth-grained wood that provides a consistent playing surface from the first fret to the body join. White dot inlays keep navigation simple, and the chrome die-cast tuners handle the job of keeping things in tune without any drama.

The Details That Make a Difference

The PF54 includes a nandu wood bridge — the same wood used on the fretboard — with Ibanez's Advantage bridge pins. These pins have a distinctive bulb-shaped end that makes string changes noticeably easier than standard pins: you can grip them without a tool, and they seat properly without over-inserting. It's a small detail, but you'll appreciate it when it's time to restring.

The soundhole features a black-and-white water decal rosette, and the guitar comes strung with Ibanez IACS6C strings (.012–.053 gauge) in standard tuning, ready to play out of the box.

Product Features:

Body Shape: Dreadnought — full-size with strong projection and balanced tone

Top: Meranti with open-pore polyurethane finish in vintage sunburst

Back & Sides: Meranti with natural mahogany-toned open-pore finish

Neck: Meranti, PF profile shape

Fretboard: Nandu wood, 20 frets, 10" (250mm) radius, white dot inlays

Scale Length: 25.5" (650mm)

Nut Width: 42mm (~1.65")

Bridge: Nandu wood with Ibanez Advantage bridge pins

Tuners: Chrome die-cast, 15:1 ratio

Finish: Open-pore polyurethane — natural, tactile feel

Strings: Ibanez IACS6C, .012–.053 gauge, standard tuning

Brand: Ibanez

Model: PF54

SKU: PF54OVH

Condition: New

Since 1872, C.A.
